Summary:
It is a designer’s responsibility to bring fresh, innovative and relevant product to fruition each season. A designer is responsible for the conceptualization and design of the product contained in the category each designer is assigned to.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties:
• Conceptualization of Product
• Fabric Selection
• 1st General Drawing & Final Tech Drawing
• Fit Direction & Maintenance
• Fabric Design (pitches) & Approval
• Color Approval
• Styling & Fit Comments During Development
• Creation & Maintenance of Season’s Product Presentation Pages
• Execution of Trimming, Wash and Packaging
Responsibilities
• Stay in tune with the needs of Volcom’s market & customer base
• Stay up on trends in and outside of our immediate market
• Stay up on the state of the action sports market
• Stay up on the competition’s product
• Understand & assist in the merchandising of each category
• Travel with the team to explore happenings in select regions/districts each season
• Travel to attend sales meetings and select tradeshows
Job Requirements:
- At least 5+ years experience in a design department
- A Merchandising, Design, Graphic Arts degree or Bachelor’s degree is preferable and appreciated
- Strong understanding of the action sports lifestyle and our customer
- Ability to interpret forward fashion design and concept into a product that will work for our market
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
Computer Skills:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should be at the following levels for the below software programs
• Advanced to Expert - Mac OSX, Panther, etc.
• Advanced to Expert – Illustrator 10, CS, CS2
• Intermediate to Advanced – Photoshop
• Intermediate – Word, Excel
