Job Description

Overall Job Objective

Summary

Under general supervision, assists with preparing, order taking, receiving, stocking and display of deli product. Maintains department cleanliness, and provides customer service. This position reports to the store management team.
Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months experience in the food service or retail industry. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to work weekends and some evenings. Previous customer service experience. Successful completion of Food Handlers classes and possession of current Food Handlers card. Current CPR and First Aid card preferred, but may be obtained after hire. Must successfully complete and pass a background check.
Examples of Duties

  • Aids customers at deli counter by taking orders, slicing meats and cheeses.
  • Properly cuts, wraps and scales deli items to specifications.
  • Prepares vegetables and meats for preparation of menu items offered by kitchen.
  • Prepares sandwiches, pizza, fried foods and baked goods.
  • Answers phones and takes special orders.
  • Prepares trays of food that have been ordered for parties based upon requested pick up date.
  • Operates cash register as needed, follows all front end and cash accountability procedures.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work area including tables, floor, walls, cases, coolers and freezers.
  • Merchandises products in display cases utilizing proper signage and price accurately.
  • Assists with inventory; unloading, stocking, facing, filling, and rotating merchandise.
  • Utilizes deli and kitchen equipment in preparing food items.
  • Assists customers with locating items throughout the market.
  • Provides a high level of prompt and friendly customer service.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements

  • Maintain working knowledge Deli recipes and prepared foods.
  • Operate slicer, wrapping and cooking equipment.
  • Must maintain strict adherence to all Safety, Health, and Weights and Measures regulations; observes temperatures within coolers and cases; and report any failures to management.
  • Must maintain strict adherence to Vekol Market policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow approved procedures for receiving product, price marking, and restocking cases to ensure quality protection, accuracy, and product rotation.
  • Follow safe operation of fryers, ovens, must understand food and kitchen safety.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude are essential to interact with customers and employees..
  • Reliable and dependable; ability to follow directions.
  • Good communication skills; outgoing and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to perform repetitious activities.
  • Able to work flexible schedules including nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Requires standing for prolonged periods of time; occasional walking; climbing a two step stool.
  • Manual dexterity to wrap package and stock products up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Frequently push and pull up to 100 lbs. and move products 150 lbs. using a pallet jack.
  • Exposure to extreme temperature changes.
  • Requires vision for working with sharp knives, slicer, box cutter and related equipment; will need to determine spoiled or damaged product.
