Definition

Definition: Under general supervision of the Court Administrator or designee, provides, conducts and performs a variety of hands on and administrative tasks related to the daily assignments of the Probation Officers. Provides assistance to the Court Administrator/Assistant Court Administrator with Administrative Tasks. This Position is treated as an FLSA Exempt and is a DRIVING position.

Examples of Tasks

  • Reviews court orders, makes assignments to Probation Officers and monitors the progress/status of these assignments.
  • Conducts pre-sentence investigations in order to provide Community Judges with detailed information regarding defendants, victims, and other circumstances or conditions and makes recommendations to Judges regarding appropriate sentencing.
  • Maintains individual files and documents all contacts. Maintains a network with others involved with or providing services to the client: police and detention officers, prosecutors, defense advocates, judges, teachers, doctors, nurses, court staff, counselors, victims, and effected families.
  • Attends adult, juvenile, and domestic violence court hearings. Serves as a witness for the Community (e.g., probation violations) at Domestic Violence hearings for adults. May testify regarding probation revocation, sentencing recommendations and related matters.
  • Serves as the primary backup to all probation officers, drug court staff and others working within the Probation Department
  • Trains subordinate employees on policies and procedures and completes EPAR's in a timely manner.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment ensuring that staff is fully supplied with the items needed to complete their duties.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Court administrator or Assistant Court Administrator.

    • Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, rules, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
    • Knowledge of the purpose, current issues, projects, organization, policies, and employee responsibilities of the division to which assigned
    • Knowledge of Tribal Laws
    • Knowledge of SRPMIC record keeping requirements regarding probationers.
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of probation case management.
    • Knowledge of social, training and rehabilitation programs available to Community Members.

    • Skill in interpreting and assessing situations, issues and concerns.
    • Skill in maintaining confidentiality and using discretion in dealing with sensitive information.
    • Skill in identifying problems, recommending solutions, and using initiative to implement them.
    • Skill in listening well, and communicating effectively with community members, employees and diverse members of the public having considerable variation in values and educational and cultural background.


    • Ability to persuade, motivate, and influence internal and external contacts.
    • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to probation activities.
    • Ability to adapt to changing work situations and assignments.
    • Ability to listen well, and communicate effectively with community members, employees and diverse members of the public having considerable variation in values and education and cultural background.
    • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment, while at the same time recognizing when it is appropriate to refer matters to the Court Administrator's attention.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work or a closely related field and three years of full time experience as an adult or juvenile probation officer required. 1 year supervisor experience in a court environment required.

    Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.

    Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.

    Special Requirements

    • May be required to work beyond normal business hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
    • Employees in, and applicants applying for, jobs providing direct services to children are subject to the "Community Code of Ordinances", Chapter 11, "Minors", Article X. "Investigation of Persons Working With Children".
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.

    Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
